I love the features that you get with old houses, and when I moved into my house, I really wanted to keep all of the features that made it so special. I came to the conclusion a few years ago that if you want the perfect house, you’re going to have to compromise on some aspects of design. So when I went looking for my current house, I was fairly open-minded.

That turned out to be a good thing, as the house I absolutely fell in love with was decked out with hideous seventies carpets and wallpaper. I decided that as soon as I moved in the first thing I would do would be to rip out all the carpets and get started on designing it my way.
