It seemed like the roles were a bit different when it was time for our Dad to go into a nursing home; he was the one convincing us, rather than the other way round. Ever since our Mum died, he hasn’t enjoyed living in the family home on his own. At first he tried to put a brave face on it, but she did so much for him, and he was really struggling to run the house without her. Over Sunday lunch one week, he told my brothers and I that he had been looking at nursing homes, and he had found one that he really liked. My Mum has always been very aware of what is going on around her, but over the last couple of months I have noticed a real difference in her. She has become quite confused and I started to really worry about her. I work full time so I can’t be there to look after her all the time. I considered arranging home care for her, but I felt that both she and I would be more comfortable if she had the around the clock care that she would get in a care home.
