Ever since I was a little girl I have imagined my wedding, but unlike other little girls, my dream wedding was a modest affair in the family home that I grew up in. I was worried that I never would be able to get married in the family home when my parents told me that they were planning to downsize in the near future, but luckily my fiance proposed to me just before the sale went through! My Mum and Dad wanted the house to be perfect for my big day, so they decided to redo the bathroom for the guests. I told them that it was unnecessary, but they insisted. Getting married at home sounded like a really good idea, but as the planning started, I realised that there was a lot of things to arrange in my house, as well as for the wedding. We were getting married in the summer, so we decided that if we were lucky with the weather, we would have the reception in the garden. One day, I was sitting in my garden, when I knew that there would have to be a big clear up in the garden. They had the exact stone that I wanted, and when it was finished, it looked perfect.

When the garden looked great, the wedding plans stepped up a notch, and our bog day crept up on us very quickly. The day was perfect, and even though all of the planning was stressful, it was all worth it in the end.

The morning of my wedding was not the glamorous start to wedded life that I was hoping for! I had to go to the office to sort out the panel filters of all things! Last year we moved house to somewhere smaller as my son had finally moved out and gone to live in London. Until I met my current boyfriend I was never interested in getting married. When all my friends were talking about how they had planned every detail of their big day, I just wasn’t bothered.  When Karl proposed, though, I knew it was right.

Coming up to Christmas now, although it’s still fairly early, I need to start thinking about what to get for my friends and family. I always find it quite difficult to choose something for people that they haven’t already got. You don’t want to spend lots of money on something which is probably going to end up at a car boot sale come the summer months!

I was thinking this year of getting my parents a lovely photograph album which is full of pictures of the family over the years. I have always been fascinated by the number of pictures and photographs which emerge in magazines and newspapers. At one point in my career, I really wanted to do journalism and seemed to find the commercial photography part of the work really interesting too.
