I think it has been very difficult for my uncle as he has been getting older because he was always so active and fit. When I was growing up I used to go and watch him play semi-professional football, but now he has terrible problems with his joints and has started to use a scooter. After my Auntie passed away six months ago, he struggled to carry on living on his own, so he moved to www.nursinghomeswestsussex.co.uk. I was so glad that he moved because he settled in really quickly and managed to make some new friends straight away.

I have never been someone who dreamt about having a big wedding, all I have ever really wanted for my wedding is to have everybody who I care about there seeing me say my vows. My Grandma has had Alzheimers for five years now and it has been very upsetting to see her forget so many important things. I really wanted her to be able to come to my wedding but I was worried that she wouldn’t be up to it. She lives in a specialist nursing home that helps people who are suffering with dementia, www.nursinghomesdorset.co.uk, and she receives really excellent care. When she first moved there I was very worried that I would find it upsetting visiting her, but if anything, it made me feel better seeing her in such a friendly and caring environment.

When I went to visit my uncle in his new care home recently, I was not sure what to expect. His daughters decided the time had come when he was no longer able to live on his own, and they made the right decision for his safety, but I wondered if he would be happy. A lot of people are filled with dread at the thought of living in a care home or having to find a home for their parents, but our experience has been an amazing one. My father was finding it increasingly difficult to manage on his own at his home in Bognor Regis, and we live such a long way away, we were no help to him at all. Since my mother died, he had also become very lonely. He had always been such a sociable person and really missed the company of others as he spent more and more time in his house. He has got a new lease of life and we are much happier knowing he is being properly looked after as he becomes older and even more frail. He now has people around him all the time, which makes him so much happier and content.

My elderly mother is struggling in her own home and we have been looking at all the options open to her.  We could employ a carer to live in with her, but she says she thinks it’s time to look at nursing homes.  She says she wants to be able to help choose the nursing home she goes in and not leave it to the stage where she will have no say.  We have looked round quite a few and the best one we have found is www.nursinghomeshastings.co.uk (more…)
