I have always looked up to my uncle and love spending time with him. A couple of years ago he had a stroke and it had a massive effect on his life. He struggles with a lot of tasks that he used to find simple but he is very stubborn and only agreed to getting some help last month. His house that he was living in was not suitable for his requirements so we looked into finding somewhere that would be better. I have been caring for my Mum for the past three years now and it can be a very exhausting job. I love spending time with her, but I am only in my twenties and I can’t help but thinking that there are other things that I should be trying and pursuing. My Mum is always the person who is pushing me to do more, so she was over the moon when I was accepted onto a nursing course in the local area. I never would have thought that my Dad would enjoy getting home care so much, especially seeing as he was so adamant that he didn’t need any help a couple of months ago! He was dead against getting any help, but I knew that it would make his life easier. I have been caring for my Dad for a few years now, and although he doesn’t really need that much help and he is still very independent, I worry about leaving him on his own for long periods of time.
