Moving Out

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011
You really don’t realise how much stuff you have in your house until you have to pack it all up! We have been using our cellar as a dumping ground for loads of our stuff and it was only when he had to start packing boxes that we actually realise how much useless stuff we had been hoarding. My wife and I were dumping all of the stuff into am skip when I heard a very high pitched scream; my wife had seen a rat in the cellar. I wouldn’t say that I was a person who gets easily scared, but rats are one thing that I just cannot abide. We retreated upstairs and called www.ratcontrolcheltenham.co.uk to come and sort out the problem. They are an excellent company and were able to get rid of the rats quickly and in the most humane way possible.

Home Care Or Residential Care?

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

I have been living alone for twenty years now, and I have found that I even though I love living in my own home, I’m not sure whether I would prefer living with other people. I need help with certain things in my day to day tasks, so I have been getting help from www.homecareservicesplymouth.co.uk. They drop in every day to help me with things like shopping and cleaning, and they are incredibly helpful. I appreciate all of the help, but I was unsure of whether I would be willing to get live in care in case I had trouble with everything else in my life, including my personal care.

Elderly and Chiropractic Care

Monday, July 11th, 2011

My Grandma is in her 80s now, and she is still very agile of mind, it’s her body that can’t keep up with her. She had a bad fall a couple of months ago, and she was badly hurt. It has also really knocked her confidence, and she decided that she would be happier and feel safer if she lived somewhere where she was given around the clock care if she needed it. She did all of her own research, but she asked my Dad and me to come along with her to have a look at www.elderlycarehomeluton.co.uk. We were really impressed by the facilities that they had, and my Gran seemed to instantly feel at home there. She moved in last month and she is really loving it there.

Visiting My Grandma

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

It was heartbreaking when we realised that my Grandma was suffering from dementia. She was always been very alert and sharp, so it was devastating for us all when we knew that it was having such an effect on her life. My mum tried to look after her all that she could, but she has a full time job, so we needed to find somewhere where she could be really looked after by professionals. None of us knew about where the best dementia care would be, so we started doing our research and found www.dementiacaremanchester.co.uk. We went to visit one of their care homes and we were so impressed. My Grandma was really comfortable there, and we knew that it was the right place for her.

Catering And Care

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

I have had so much to organise over the past couple of months, it’s been hard to keep up! I have been arranging a launch party for a company that I work for in Yorkshire, and I have also had the difficult task of finding some care services for my Mum who is in her eighties.

When I was looking through care companies, I tried to look as though I was looking for care for myself, as I thought that would make it easier to choose. My Mum is still very independent, and she really doesn’t want to leave her home, but I realised that she needed a bit of  help with the day to day running of things and the housekeeping. After a lot of research, the company that was the best available for our requirements was www.careservicesnorthwoolwich.co.uk. They are a fantastic company that really help people keep their independence and stay in their home. They have made a real difference to my Mum’s quality of life.  (more…)

Nursing Homes in Stockton

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Nursing homes in Stockton appear to be few and far between when you desperately need one!

My Grandma moved into a nursing home in Stockton around a year ago now as she was struggling to do everything on her own. It was her decision to go into a nursing home where she could interact with people her own age and be looked after in the way that she should be.

Respite Care in Guildford

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Caring for a person is like having a full time job, and like with anything, we all need a break from time to time. I have been looking at options in terms of home services in Guildford because being a carer; I need to have a rest too!

My daughter was born with a sever disability which means that she needs caring for 24 hours around the clock. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t wish for anything other than what I do now but sometimes, it would be nice to be able to do the things that I have an interest in and live my life too.

I have found a website at www.respitecareguildford.co.uk and would love to get in touch with them to see what sort of respite care services they do offer. (more…)

Care at Home in Guildford

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

I’ve never been one to fully agree with the idea surrounding nursing homes in Guildford but I am a realist in understanding when the right time is to act.

To be honest, a nursing home is not my first thought at the moment as I am looking at care at home options first and foremost. Nursing homes fill me with negative thoughts and although I am sure they are not that bad in real life, in my head I see them as a no go!

Care Homes in Dorset

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

It’s horrible to think that some people have to be in care homes for the majority of their lives. It’s something that I really have to think about at the minute as my Grandma is really struggling to live on her own. The problem is generally just her age to be honest, but in reality, she needs some help with the general day to day things.

My Grandma is very independent.  Probably too independent for her own good in fact! The other day though I went round to find that she had fallen on the floor and couldn’t get herself back up again. She had been on the floor for sometime in the night as she didn’t want to call anyone to wake them up.

It just made me look online at websites like www.carehomesdorset.co.uk. I know a lot of people have a lot of criticism for care homes in terms of their cost but to see my Grandma like that, you have to wonder whether it’s worth it. (more…)

Care Homes in Hythe

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Care Homes in Hythe is one of those subjects that seems to make me wince. I don’t quite know what it is about them but I feel somewhat nervous at the thought.

I always imagine that care homes are for old people who have lost their independence a little. Besides this, the media coverage of the costs of care homes probably does nothing in their favour. (more…)
