My dad has always been a huge golf fan. He’s one of those golfers who goes the whole hog with the funny trousers, special shoes, and even a hat. He drinks his coffee every morning from a mug emblazoned with the words ‘World’s best golfer.’

When my nan died last year I discovered in her will that she had left her house to my husband and I, as we had been renting since we first moved in together. It was a lovely gesture, and we both really appreciated it, but there was one problem. It was a very old house, and there was a lot which needed doing to bring it up to modern standards.

We moved in fairly swiftly as the lease was nearly up on our house in Glasgow, and we thought we would get more done if we were there. After I finished university in Glasgow a couple of years ago I was keen to stay on in the city as I had built up so much of a life there. I got a flat with a friend and we went a bit mad buying loads of furniture and making it our own little home.
