For my wife’s birthday I decided to get her a present that I knew she would love… a new kitchen! She’s a wonderful cook, and she would never complain about our current kitchen, but it is a bit worse for wear. She was going on holiday for two weeks with her sister just before her birthday, so I thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to get a new kitchen fitted. I’ve been trying to scrape together the money for a new kitchen for years, but it’s just not happening. It’s really frustrating as it does really need doing. Or, at least, I thought it needed doing, before I realised that getting new kitchen doors and worktops would have just the same effect.

My wife and I have argued for years over what we want to do with the kitchen. She says we need a new kitchen,I don’t think we do. It’s been five years of bickering every time we make dinner. To keep the peace I conceded that we could think about getting new worktops.
