As the Environment Agency say, there’s nothing new about flooding in Oxford, but following the 2007 deluge, people are certainly more aware of flood defence plans and the risks of not taking action to help protect homes and businesses.

This is one of the biggest consultations yet, with proposals including a £100m flood channel as wide as the River Thames to the west of the city from Binsey to Redbridge.

Flooding can have devastating effects on people’s homes and their lives. I have been luckly enough to have never had to deal with flooding issues directly, but I my Aunt has had terrible problems with flooding. She had to have her floor completely replaced a couple of years ago, and they had to stay in rented accommodation because they were worried that the water had got into the electrical system. Luckily, it hadn’t, so the damage wasn’t as bad as had been expected. I appreciate how difficult flooding can be.
