My daughter has grown up so fast, I can’t believe that she’s 18 years old! I think that I have been avoiding thinking about her moving out and being a grown up for a long time, but there have been moments when it has sunk in. I have been my Mum’s full time carer for the last couple of years, but her health is sadly getting worse, so it has come to a point where she needs to get around the clock care from professionals. She is still very sharp and astute, but unfortunately her body can’t keep up with her mind. My son has been looking forward to his prom for a long time now and I decided to do all that I could to make it a night that he will always remember. The second I leave the office, it’s as though the whole company falls apart. I had been preparing to go to London to visit my sister for a few months, but before I went I needed to make sure that my colleagues would be ok without me. They have really come to rely on me to oversee their work and unfortunately they have very little confidence in their own initiative. I have tried to change this but they seem to prefer it when they are being told what to do. I was having a great catch up with my sister in London when the office rang and said that they needed me to come back immediately as our fuel supplier had fallen through. A visit to friends for the weekend has led to a whole new kitchen for me! Let me explain. The friends we were staying with had just had new UPVC doors fitted from the kitchen to the conservatory – and they looked great. I thought when my children left home, I wouldn’t have to worry about them quite so much, but of course, I still do. Even though my daughter is living a long way away, I still find myself running around after her!

Take the other day: my husband and I were in the garden trying to lay down some new gravel when the phone rang. I had to abandon work to rush indoors in my wellies. It was my daughter on the phone, and after talking to her I spent the next 30minutes sorting things out for her. She had bought herself a second-hand car but it had no MOT and she didn’t know where to take it. My gran was such a kind woman, but none of us knew just how kind until after she died. She had four children and seven grandchildren, and saved money away for all of us to leave in her will. My girlfriend completely lover her dog Lulu, sometimes I think that she might love her more than she loves me! She has had her since she was six weeks old and she treats her more like a baby than a dog! It took some getting used to when we first started going out, but now I love Lulu almost as much as she does. I have always been a very cautious driver, but sometimes you can’t avoid the fact that other people are not as cautious as you are.
