Coronation Street will be celebrating 50 years on our screens this December. The soap that was created by Tony Warren, was first broadcast on 9th December 1960, making it the world’s longest running soap opera. Set in a cobbled street in Weatherfield, Manchester, the soap has had some cameos over the years from some very famous names and faces. In 1966, the Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley appeared as Ron Jenkins and Spice Girl Mel B enjoyed a stint at the checkout in Bettabuys in 1993. Read the rest of this entry »

The Greater Manchester Police decided to use the social network Twitter for something rather special last week. The police force, which serves more than 2.5 million people in 12 divisions across 500 square miles, decided to tweet all 999 calls that they received between 5am and 5pm on a single day to show the type of incidents that are reported. I was thinking of putting my flat on the market, but the only room that I hadn’t finished off was the kitchen. I know kitchens really help to sell a property, so I wanted it to look really high quality.
A friend of mine suggested using travertine tiles as flooring. She said they made a room look very expensive. They weren’t cheap to buy, but the kitchen was only small.
