Vital rape helpline re-established after cash boost

A helpline offering counselling for people in Luton who have been affected by rape has been re-established after closing down four years ago.

Luton Rape Crisis Centre, which offers counselling in Luton for men and women who have been victims of rape, shut down because of lack of funding. But now, thanks to a cash boost from police and other local organisations it has been able to re-open. (more…)

Salt stores reduced despite harsh winter

Luton Borough Council ordered 500 tonnes less road salt for this year, compared to last winter, despite problems caused by shortages in the last cold snap.

Figures revealed by The Taxpayers’ Alliance this week have shown that the authority ordered just 1,900 tonnes of grit for 2010/11; a 500 tonne decrease on last year’s 2,400 tonnes. (more…)

Police in Bedfordshire are warning motorists to become more security conscious over the winter months.

Car security in Luton has become a hot topic this winter after two cars were stolen in Leighton Buzzard recently.

The vehicles had been left unattended while the owners left the engines running to allow the windscreens to defrost. (more…)

Indian restaurants in Luton

My birthday was fast approaching and, as usual, I’d managed to leave it to the last minute to organise any sort of celebration.

I was feeling a bit lazy and uninspired by the whole thing this year and couldn’t really be doing with a load of different events. I wanted something which would be alright for my friends and my family, so in the end I settled on having a meal out at an Indian restaurant.
