Hull the City of Culture?

When I first read about Hull in the running for the City of Culture back in September, I found it quite amusing, but it turns out that the campaign has gathered momentum.

And when you come to think about it, there has been quite a lot happening in recent months – the Freedom Festival and Clipper Race are two good examples.

Hull Freedom Festival and the City of Freedom

We are, apparently, the UK’s City of Freedom. A made-up term if ever I heard one, but the sentiment is there.

It all links, of course, to Hull’s most famous son – William Wilberforce – and we’re celebrating the 250th anniversary of his birth this year as part of the Freedom Festival.
