Friday night rugby for Hull FC
Friday, November 28th, 2008There are some disgruntled Hull FC rugby fans stalking through the city at the moment – I even overheard a heated conversation on the train about the club.
Apparently it’s all about the announcement that Hull FC will play home matches on a Friday night instead of the usual Sunday afternoon from February next year.
It seems to have divided the fans, both in terms of the actual decision to plump for the weekday night, as well as the fact that no-one knew of the proposed switch before buying season passes.
Sporthull had a poll, with 60% of the fans saying they objected to the decision, but the debate rages on.
The two people arguing over it on the train both had valid points; one was a father who prefers the Friday night because Sunday is traditionally the day he likes to spend with the family, the other couldn’t attend as many games because of the changed day (although he didn’t say why — perhaps he works? or washes his fair on a Friday night?)
Either way, I’m sure it can’t please everyone, but with the influence of Sky coverage, along with the pattern of Leeds, Wigan and St Helens playing games on Friday nights, it wasn’t totally unexpected, surely?
