It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, having a broken boiler is never fun. My boiler broke last month and the three days I had without hot water were horrible! There is never a good time for the boiler to go, is there? Hot water and heat are just some of those things it’s very hard to live without.

It’s funny how hugely inconvenient things always happen at the most hugely inconvenient times.

I had moved into my house in Bristol a few years ago and after manically decorating and nest-making for the past year and a half it was all finally sorted and I was happy with it. It was really cosy and I couldn’t wait to sit snuggled up inside with the heating on over the winter.

Then disaster struck. The boiler died.

The other day after work, I had waited for the bus in the rain for around an hour and came home to find that the heating wouldn’t turn on either. You know when you just have one of those days where everything goes wrong? Well that day was certainly one of them!

I got to work to find out that people were being made redundant to cut back on expenditures, then I realised I had left my lunch at home in the rush to get to work and on top of that I had to wait for the bus in the rain! I couldn’t wait to just get home to bed and start afresh day the next day.

Last winter was one of the most miserable times of the year for my family and me. Having just moved into our lovely new family home last summer we were feeling very satisfied with our purchase that was until winter.

This winter was particularly cold and with all the snow we had, temperatures were quite regularly below freezing. We did not feel this would be a problem as we thought our boiler would be able to handle the cold temperatures and keep my family nice and warm.
