It may sound slightly unusual but my husband and I decided to get each other home improvement Christmas presents this year; I got him a garage door and he got me oven cleaning services. My new house almost looks exactly as I have always wanted it to, there are just a few finishing touches that I need to sort out. I managed to find a second hand washing machine that I got through a friend, I just needed to get some minor repairs on it so that it could be in teh best working condition possible. When I started my new business I was a bit overwhelmed by all of the stuff that I needed to arrange. I had no idea how many things needed to be applied for, and all the implications that come with permits and insurance and all the boring stuff like that. I’m only a hairdresser! The digital switchover is fast approaching in my area and I needed to arrange some help for my dear old Gran who still had an analog aerial. I didn’t want her to have to miss any of her soaps when the analog signal is turned off.

I work full time, so I couldn’t be there when the aerial upgrade was taking place, so I needed to find a company who could be reliable and who I could trust to do the job professionally. I had only had my cooker for about a year when the hob stopped working. What a nightmare – the warranty had just run out. I wasn’t happy.

My job is as a food stylist so I need my cooker for my work. I had to get it fixed quickly.

Having just set up a company based in Bridlington, the first thing to go wrong on our company premises were the electrics.

I didn’t want to use an individual electrician because I wanted to make sure any work carried out was fully covered by our insurance.

To be honest, when I bought my house, I knew there was going to be a lot of work involved but maybe not quite as much as it has been in reality! Since buying the house in May, I have had job after job to do in order to get the house to look presentable and more importantly liveable!

One of the big jobs though was looking at rewires in Margate. If anybody out there is considering rewiring and it isn’t urgent, I wouldn’t recommend it! It was one of the biggest jobs we’ve had to do and we’ve done a lot of jobs! (more…)
