I have to be honest, my house is not the cleanest place on earth. It’s tidy, and it’s not disgustingly filthy, but it could be more pristine, I have to confess.

So when my parents announced on a Wednesday that they were coming to stay on a Saturday it was panic stations all round as my housemates and I desperately tried to get the house into some sense of order before the royal visit (at least that’s what it felt like!)

We dusted and vacuumed until we could do it no more, and scrubbed the bathroom until we could see our faces in the floor, but despite all the hard work we could not get the carpets clean no matter how hard we tried.

We love our dog, but he is a huge Great Dane and makes a lot of mess.

I suppose we didn’t notice it much, but when we came to move house, my son told us that we’d have to get rid of the dog hair that had built up in the carpets and get them looking nice.

I tried with my humble home vacuum cleaner but it didn’t seem to get everything up.

After a December that was colder than previous years and a January set to be worse the UK has found itself in the grip of bad weather, many northern cities like Manchester found themselves at the mercy of the elements, Manchester Airport for example had to be closed because of the large amount of snow, as well as many businesses. These extremes of weather don’t just affect business but householders too, as many people will also be suffering from the damage caused to their homes by the snow.
